Two weeks ago Sunday, we were asked by Make-A-Wish Foundation - Hawai'i to help make a little girl's wish come true. She wished for a bedroom remodel! Little did I know that this would feel like the most important deadline I have faced in forty years as an interior designer.
While visiting her in her room we learned what she really wanted was to transform her existing bedroom into a happy bedroom: She loved the color purple and wanted it on the walls.
So we looked through the Sherwin Williams paint samples and found just the right purple that she liked. I told her that we should probably put some white in the room to complement the color (thinking of the ceiling) but, instead she preferred a soft lavender for the ceiling.
Many people stepped up and volunteered their time or materials to make this happen, and happen quickly. STP Painting, and Joe and Kathy Tawater and crew supplied the labor, and Sherwin Williams supplied the paint. Mike Godfrey showed up last Saturday and installed the crown molding, fitted the track for the closet door and installed the ceiling hook. The door and moulding and the laminate flooring were all donated by Home Depot.
My first reaction? Wow, that's purple! So glad we set it off with the white. In this picture, Greg, from Home Depot, came out to measure for the oak laminate flooring and list all the things they would need to finish the install in one afternoon.
Team Home Depot hard at work installing the new laminate floor. They all donated their labor. And all the material was donated by Home Depot. YAY Home Depot! Mahalo to all!
